May Day

Centuries old traditions make May Day in 1066 Country unforgettable.  By joining our world famous Jack-in-the-Green celebrations in Hastings, you'll say a formal farewell to winter (or Jack Frost) and welcome spring with colourful and uplifting dance and music.

You'll be dazzled by the spectrum of colourful costumes and skilful Morris dancers hopping from side to side and waving traditional hankies or wooden sticks.

The Jack-in-the-Green parade goes through Hastings Old Town, stopping for refreshments along the way before making its way to Hastings Castle for an afternoon of Morris dancing, music and the symbolic slaying of the Jack marking the official start of spring!

The Jack-in-the-Green festival takes place in Hastings, but there are smaller springtime Morris dancing displays across the area.

Visit our Jack-in-the-Green pages for more information.
