Foyle's War: Horowitz in Hastings
Anthony Horowitz is a veteran screenwriter and the creator of 'Foyle's War'.
Responding to a call from ITV for a new detective show to replace 'Inspector Morse', Horowitz exhaustively researched this project to fend off competing proposals from around 130 other Screenwriters and Producers.
The stars of the show include Michael Kitchen and Honeysuckle Weeks.
The pilot episode was mainly filmed in Hastings Old Town in Summer 2001.
Further episodes were shot here during 2002 and 2003.
After learning that the town had a 'unique position' in the World War II, Horowitz decided to let Hastings keep its name in the show. So alongside its world-famous reputation as the birthplace of television and the site of the 1066 battle, it’s also become known as the home of DCI Foyle!
The show now attracts nearly nine million viewers an episode in the United Kingdom and is now considered a mainstay of the ITV early Winter schedule.
Horowitz is delighted with the reception he and the crew receive in Hastings and St Leonards: "Shooting here is a joy - we love being here."
Horowitz has written countless episodes of Midsomer Murders, Robin of Sherwood and Murder in Mind together with the feature film 'The Gathering'. As far as he’s concerned, Foyle's War is the best project he's ever been involved with. As he told us "This is as good as it gets!"
